From the team here at My HR Hub, we hope you all had a restful break over the Christmas period and wish you all a happy, healthy and fruitful New Year.

2022 was certainly a challenging year, we saw a lot of our clients businesses thrive during the end of the Pandemic, however, last year we also saw many businesses struggle with the rising cost of living, employee retention, absences and high levels of stress from both management and employees alike.

We also saw a step change in employees being much more aware of their rights, the abolishment of the fee for Tribunals have also seen an increase in claims, however small.

The working from home, then enticing employees back to the office has been a challenge for many, and the ongoing importance of being a flexible employer has never been so apparent.

HR trends in 2023

We hope this year will be easier for everyone, and as we enter 2023, from our current perspective, we predict the following areas of HR will be more of a focus for businesses and our clients in particular:

1. Health and Wellbeing: Creating a genuine focus on strategies that will help your employees and line managers cope with the turbulent times.

How we can help: Creating a Health and Wellbeing Plan to manage all areas of this, including counselling, health care providers, external suppliers to come on site, managers support/training.

2. Line Manager Training – A real effort to up skill mangers who on top of their day job, have to deal with complex employee issues. By training them and giving them the skills to manage or signpost this will reduce employee relation issues.

How we can help: By offering bespoke line manager training to upskill and reduce the risk of issues down the line. We offer over 45 workshops, which are practical, interactive and offer an element of reassurance for line managers and clients alike.

3. Retention – The large numbers of employees leaving companies, either to start their own businesses, move to competitors or to take leave/sabbatical was high in 2022. Keeping employees happy has never been so important.

How we can help: We offer Employee Engagement surveys which are face-to-face, so we get to the heart of the issues. This creates a ‘business improvement plan’, so step by step we recommend how to make you a great place to work.

Exit interviews are also a useful tool, but the horse has already bolted! Encouraging effective 1-1’s is so important to build the trust, openness and the start of many good conversations.

4. Attraction: Business are seeing skill shortages or just cannot compete with other competitors’ salaries. Recruitment requires a high volume of admin and is time consuming. Candidates are less loyal now and are seeking maximum flex, higher salaries and in a lot of cases, will select based on businesses CSR as well as ethical and empathic leadership.

How we can help: We can help with recruitment and systems to reduce your admin as well as help you source pipelines. We can also offer salary surveys to ensure you are competitive and think about creative ways to attract. We can also help clients develop CSR strategies and work with amazing coaches to help business leaders in coaching, developing values/mission and how these cascade to your business.

My HR Hub also offer a huge range of other HR support and advice, but for us, these seem the key areas for clients as we head into 2023.
